Roller

If you want to see luxury cars, go to Casino Square. There you'll find the Rollers, the Lamborghinis, the Ferraris and more. I don't know who arranges this but I do know that if I were to try to park my car, I'd soon be moved on! "Go to the 'parking' below the gardens," I'd be told. I suppose it's a policy which perpetuates the idea of Monaco as a place of luxury, glamour and over-the-top wealth. Clever marketing actually. This Rolls Royce (or is it a Bentley?) is parked on the Place du Casino - you see the casino to the left and the American Bar of the Hôtel de Paris to the right.

I don't know much about automobiles anymore.

There was a time when I could tear them apart and grind the valves and rebuild the carburetor, but now I have problems getting the doors open and rolling down the windows.

I used to think owning a luxury car was nice. Then I started to look at them and found 4-wheels, one engine, two seats, and two bumpers. The only difference was I ended up with less money in my billfold than I had before.

Like a woman, a car gets you somewhere and that's about all they are good for.

A beautiful woman is much like a luxury car. If you can afford one you are fortunate, and if she turns out to be somebody you can live with for half a century or longer, even the gods will smile.

I don't much like snooty people with bags of money, carried by people in black suits, who cannot park their luxury cars.

  2. I'm with you on cars, Abraham. In fact I had the same car until recently - it was 16 years old, never let me down, but looked a bit rough. Recently I bought a new car - nothing terribly grand but all the same it worries me, because it's new. It could be stolen (not on my track though! I could bash it, I didn't care about the old one. Cars should get one from a - b and that's it. I do love the comfort of this new one tho - airconditioning that works, comfortable seats. Ah....

As for Monaco, well, as you know I live in Gorbio, near to Menton, but if I were a Monaco resident, I'd pay no tax. Monaco is a tax haven and I think most of us might query the morality of this.

I will say tho that I have many Monaco clients (some now good friends) who are wealthy beyond belief, yet they are the nicest people - no one carries their money, in fact many donate to good causes - and they don't care where they park their cars. Perhaps people who have dogs are a breed apart.

Your response is great. It also refreshes my memory on some of the wealthy people I know.

I suppose the wealthy ones, are nice, but those who pretend to be rich are the real pains in the butt.

    Thanks for visiting my website.

  5. Interesting that they allow the fancy cars to park there but not the plain ones. I guess image really is everything.

  7. Fabrizio - thanks for the clarification on the car. And of course you love cars. You are Italian and all Italians are genetically programmed to adore cars!

  8. Brings back memories again! When we visited the casino I took the obligatory shot of a Lamborghini parked out front!

  9. I wonder how many people would have taken a photo of a Volkswagon Bug in front of the Monte Carlo? Now there's a car that is good on gas...and its aerodynamic design propels it through hail, wind, rain, and brutal snowstorms without much of a hitch. Who needs air conditioning, heating, or windshield wipers that work. Electric windows, seats, computerizes systems...phooey. Give me that bug!
