The Great Monte Carlo Swimming Pool Quiz

If you are a Monaco Grand Prix fan, you'll know the swimming pool by the main port of Monte Carlo. A few days ago it was being filled (as you can see in these photographs) - ready for the season - ready for the visitors - ready for Sally from Sydney Daily Photo who will be swimming in it when she visits in June. So the question is - how long does it take to fill this pool? First correct answer gets a postcard from Monte Carlo. Results: Monday.

And the winner is: Thanks so much to everyone for the guesses. Well, it should come as no surprise that the winner is someone who knows about swimming pools, indeed has a blog about swimming pools. Of course, it's Sally from Sydney Daily Photo who guessed it exactly. I was told it took between 5 and 6 hours to fill and Sally guessed 5.5 hours. I have to say, had I not seen the many jets filling the pool and the rate at which it was filling, like many others, I'd have guessed days rather than hours. Some of you took this into account but guessed slightly below the correct time. Postcard will soon be on its way to you, Sally, and the pool is now ready for you and your family in June!

  5. Oooh, yes, can't wait!

Well, it looks 50m in length, but is narrower than a standard Olympic pool....

I spose it depends on what kind of filling mechanism is employed. By the look of it, there's not a flinky standing ther ewith a garden hose.

Now I've blathered on, I'll guess 5.5 hours.

  7. Jilly, thanks for your comment today. Somehow I've missed visiting your blogs and it's nice to be reminded to come back.

That pool takes longer than my bath tub to fill and that would be my only reference point. So, that's my answer. Which of course is obviously an accurate (if imprecise) and true answer. Therefore I am the first with a correct answer. LOL

Seeing these photos today, I realize how many places I want to visit ... and how short time and money are. (sigh) ~Chuck

  11. Jilly, I love the photos of Monte Carlo, the sun always seems to shine there, as for filling the swimming pool, I have no idea, but I will guess a short time as there seems to be lots of water rushing in so how about 2.5 hours. Have a good week-end.

It's Monday in Australia, I'm standing by the letter box.

No vote; no swim ! Just joking !

  17. Oh how I envy Sally! :)

    My guess is 4-5 hours

  18. My guess, based on that no expense would be spared for the filling mechanism, and with all those jets, would be about 20 minutes.

  20. Ooh Jilly, I really don't know. Hmmm ... it takes about 5 minutes to fill the bathtub ... I'll say 12 hours but I suspect that it might be a lot less.
It is a beautiful pool and the water looks so clean and fresh. Love all those bubbles.

  21. Well, I'm flabbergasted, astounded and gobsmacked! Just cos I swim in 'em doesn't mean I know a THING about filling them! it was a completely wild guess (based on looking at those jets).

But it will make my swim even more special, that's for sure.
