Is he simply doing a 'stretch' and thinking of nothing but the physical feeling? Or is he deep in thoughts of his life? Maybe he just waiting for breakfast.
It took me a while to decide whether or not to crop this photo. I tried it cropped but preferred the sense of space - showing he was alone on this deck - and I didn't want to cut the shadows.

Brilliant. The straight lines contrast with the softer lines of the shadows, the young man, the cratered texture of the sand. Should be on the cover of a photo magazine. The light and the angle of the shot is stunning.

I like this photo. It warms me up!
Good decision, Jilly - for just the reasons you described. Sometimes more IS more.
I agree with Sally too. That sand has been well trodden and the indentations are a fantastic contrast to the straight lines of the deck.
The young man is almost a bonus in this photo. I think he is repenting for sins committed the previous evening. He is deep in prayer. lol
Nice composition as is. Stronger ... shadows add to the pensive thoughtful mood. Great photo! Too bad about your dog's canceled appointment -:)
Jilly, I think this photo is absolute perfection. The angle of the boy's legs echoes the angle of the stair railing and again the angle of the shadows. It's all contrasted with the straight boards, again contrasted with the mottled sand. The subdued colors, his golden skin...a perfect, prize-winning shot.
Whatever he's doing, he makes some nice eye-candy. :)
Very nice photo. It has a nice, almost tactile feel to it. Shadows always add to a photo. Have a great Sunday.
Great as is, might be contemplating when the breakfast would come (kidding!)
Have a happy week!
