Monaco Grand Prix - Tyre protection

More Grand Prix preparation. Old tyres everywhere - lining the route, against the walls and barriers - these protect the drivers, of course, in case of a crash.

I wonder why some are painted red and some are not? Does anyone know?

    No idea why some might be red. Those tires look to be in pretty good shape, though and still with decent tread.

    I know this is going to sound gross, but the bottom row is red to mask any blood that may be spilled when a driver crashes or a spectator is run over.
