Theme Day: a 'NO' sign

Today's Theme Day is a sign saying NO. This sign fairly well typifies what you'll find if you walk alongside the super yachts in the harbour in Monte Carlo.

And as I'm currently in America, I've added the smaller photograph. Taken outside Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, it shocked me. Just that such a sign is even necessary horrifies. Ohio recently passed a Concealed Carry Law, and seemingly if you have a CCL permit, you can carry a gun - concealed on your person - but not where you see this sign.

There are 171 cities throughout the world taking part in today's Theme. Do click here to view thumbnails and see how others have interpreted the theme.

I'm flying from Columbus, Ohio to St. George, Utah (three flights) today so am really sorry but commenting will not be possible. I'll catch up over the next day or so and meanwhile thank everyone who has left a comment.

I imagine boarding a yacht WOULD be tempting!

The first sign even looks "rich". The second sign would also stop me mid-stride . . . what a sad commentary on our culture.

I wonder how many people are actually detered by the "no boarding" sign. :)

I will admit having boarded a private yacht just to have a photo taken. Hee!

That firearm sign is shocking, but not uncommon in the U.S. While our founders gave us the right to bear arms, I'm not sure they had modern gun ownership in mind. (And I'll stop there before I start one of the oldest debates in America.)

Nice photos for this theme!

Happy Theme Day!

Yes, the handgun sign is startling. A little known fact is in USA it is illegal to have any guns in Federal buildings. Even policemen cannot bring a gun into a Post Office (they have a sign to that effect at the entrance.)Very strange to think you would need a sign to remind people...

I remember when you went into a glitzy hotel and restaurant in Monte Carlo where photos were not allowed...yet we got photos! :-)

So Ms. Jilly, did you disobey the sign and go ontothe yacht like the little paparazzi you are to take photos for us? LOL.

Have a nice trip, Jilly (in a private jet?) ;-)

Who would dare even step onto one of the yachts? They all have enormous crews - even small 130ft yachts have crews of 6 or more with many yachts in Monaco, IYCA etc.. having crews of twenty, thirty + ... & many with security teams!

I wish you'd go on the yacht and show us all the photos---we want to see!

You are right about the sad conditions that lead to your smaller Ohio sign. What a world we live in.

i can see how this smaller photo may be shocking... it's kind of shocking that i hardly notice these anymore, as they're so common....

Just goes to show that wherever you going, someone is saying "no". Reminds me of my childhood :)

"Louis" is buried deeper than his cowbell in a work project for the next several weeks. He will stop and visit, but may not stay long enough to 'sign the guest registry'.

Excellent "no" signs - both of them. It is shocking for those of who don't live in the US. We're fortunate that guns are banned here except for those who have a licence for a specific purpose.

I was there! I was there! It's all a blur of memory now, of course!

Will email you the pics Ben took of the dogs when I get everything sorted - there are some really nice ones of the pugs, Rosie and Bo!

Well, I haven't read the rest of the comments today, but I have to say I agree with you about being horrified at the NO GUNS sign. I think we need stricter gun laws in this country. . .. not a popular position, unfortunately. However, with what has happened on college campuses, school properties, etc., I shouldn't be surprised to find that.

I wish I'd known you were in Cols!!
