Red letter day?

Despite two ' wet paint' signs, I saw people posting their letters in this box. Red letters?

  3. Guess the French and Americans are more alike than we think Jilly. Over here folks would ignore a wet paint sign as well-HA Doesn't look like it would hold many letters.!

  4. I guess if I am paying bills, I dont mind if it gets red paint on it. Maybe they will take it as a protest, LOL.

  5. The posties there must either empty that box many times a day, or Monte Carloians (if that's the right word)don't post many letters. It looks more like one of those boxes you stub cigarettes out on, than for posting letters.

  6. A red letter day! LOL. This expression goes back to the Middle Ages and refers to something of significance being scribed in RED LETTERING or rubrica. I guess paying one's bills would fit into this category. Of course, I always see red when I have to pay those bills. Good weekend!

  7. I guess they thought the paint would be dry when the box was due to be emptied, so what the heck - easier than walking to find another post box.
