The construction of l'eglise Notre Dame de l'Assomption began in 1764 and was completed in 1772. The style of the facade was influenced by neo-classicism and decorated with monumental pilasters. Its architect, Antonio Spinelli, contrasted the outside with its interior which is decorated with cornices and trompe l'oeil paintings producing a dramatic effect proper to the baroque style.

Good question Laurie. I LOVE this church and would love to walk inside and see. May we???? The color is spectacular. When I opened the photo I gasped. Well I do that almost every morning with your photos!

I find the photo with the red pot having the succulent plant so mediterranean!

the short answer is I don't really know although I've spoken to a couple of people who think it has probably always been this ochre colour. But truly I don't know.

Jilly, this is a lovely facade. I also like the vase with the with the succulents. Beautiful works of art, large and small.
I find the architecture surprisingly simple. It has sharp, clean lines...not what I'd expect in Monte Carlo. Or am I a victim of stereotypes?
