This pretty corner of the village is roped off for privacy, as you see in the small photo - but the zoom lens allows a view through to this pretty gate. Note the wonderful twisted trunk the climber (or tree) that seems to grow out of nothing.
I understand the rope. A good idea. This summer I was in France in the Perigord, among other places, with my French husband. We were walking down the street in some cute town. The whole place was a monument to tourism. I do not think they had any other industry. There was a door open on the street, and a woman smoking a cigarette. I could see the interior. A huge sitting area. There were potted plants on the street around the door. I assumed it was a small hotel, a pension, a B&B. I started for the open door to look in. I had no intention of entering. The lady with the cigarette seemed suddenly startled. I realized--OMG it's her house! We all apologized & had a good laugh. Told her her house was 'magnifique.' So I see why one has ropes in a tourist area. People are just so curious. It's easy to make a mistake.
I've always been curious - what is the distance between Menton and Monte Carlo? How are you able to be in two beautiful places so frequently? Sometimes, I wish I lived in Europe. You can travel anywhere in that part of the world for fairly cheap!
This is so peaceful and gorgeous. I want to be there right now! Your photos along this path have been really, really exquisite. Jilly. (Like always!)
ReplyDeleteThis is a magical place for certain Jilly. Is it someone's home? I wonder about the rope.
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely gate, both symmetrical and delicately woven!
ReplyDeleteSo simple but so elegant in age and simplicity....
ReplyDeleteVirginia, Yes I think this would be someone's home, hence the rope.
