Eze Village: Lunch at the Chèvre d'Or - the Pool

You are invited to lunch at the Château de la Chèvre d'Or. Get your glad rags on - comfortable shoes though - because we are going to walk through the hotel gardens on our way to the terrace restaurant.

We've driven along the Moyenne Corniche to Eze but instead of parking below the village, today is going to be special. We turn up into the village and stop in front of the police barrier - normally you can't drive beyond this. We tell the policeman we are eating at the Chèvre d'Or and he allows us through. Already we are feeling rather special! We drive up the hill and stop at the beautiful wrought-iron gated entrance where the car will be parked by one of three liveried young men waiting there.

We've walked into the gardens below the hotel - here you see one of several pools overlooking Saint Jean Cap Ferrat. It's a little overcast today as you see. Tomorrow - more of the gardens.

  2. Jilly,
I can't wait. I have seen Melissa's pictures of the gardens. I am interested that you can drive up. This pool is begging us to take a dip and I DO have my glad rags on believe me!

  4. Very nice shot as the large cruise ship in the distance gives depth to the photo. Wonderful spot for viewing and/or lunch. Bon appetit!

  6. Talk about a swim with a view! It really feels like we're very high up on the hill, the view is stupendous!

I do find the pool a bit small though. I'm like Sally and I love to do laps - it wouldn't really work in this one. Are the other pools any bigger?

All right, I won't make a fuss, forget the pool, we're going to the restaurant.

Voilà je suis toute jolie, toute bien habillée, j'arrive.

  7. BTW, the church of Eze, both inside and out, was a true gem. How utterly beautiful!

  9. As I am a flat land's man I always envy your pictures. They remind me each and every time of those beautiful places I want to revisit.

Btw, did you find all those places in one visit?

  12. I can just imagine languidly paddling about, then resting with arms up on the edge to look out at the sea and hills. Then to the deck chairs in a terry wrap for a little fruit and a doze.

  17. Nathalie, the hotel is at the foot of a hill village so the pools (there are several) are small as they are cut out of small terraced areas).

Pasi, I have made three visits to the village to take photographs - the worst really was the 'lunch' day as the sky was so GREY... but yes, these pics are a combination of visits over a period of a week or so.

  19. This is a great picture of a place where I often dream about... You can even see a little part of the villa Kérylos and the villa once owned by David Niven (La fleur du Cap).

  20. A pool with a view! A bit like a "manufactured" version of the pools at Pammukkale in Turkey...calcified pools in the cliffside (have you seen pictures of them?)

It’s Sculpture By The Sea time in Sydney, and I’m taking my visitors on the coastal walk Sydney Daily Photo
