Waiting to enter the cathedral - are they judges? I've asked a couple of friends but so far no one knows. They didn't walk over with all the members of the legal profession - see photos a couple of days ago.
Note the small film crew on the left getting ready to interview a member of the clergy.
Where is Wally? What they wear on the shoulder, it seems the muffler and / or the cap of Wally.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a Santa Claus type hat.
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the information, but what was the occasion? I always enjoy pomp and tradition and this looks like one of those times.
ReplyDeleteI love that beautiful door :)
ReplyDeleteIt must be fin getting to put on all those colorful scarves and robes for at least one day per year. More than that might get a little annoying though!
ReplyDeleteI agree, jaunty "Santa" hats slung over the shoulder is so very French HA

Those jaunty hats are just too much. I LOVE this picture! (And I want one of those hats!)
ReplyDeleteFrom my Google search, the cute little hat sashes are a form of the 'epitoge' - "One other distinct feature about French judges ... is that part of the judicial costume involves a long strip of fabric which is slung over the left shoulder and dangles down. The piece often has a small strip of white fur at the end." An additional theory is that it evolved into a cap shape for the older traveling judges who needed a bit of warmth on their pates. - But I am taking all the romance out of this beutiful shot! I like their judicial pose.
ReplyDeleteAnd here I was thinking they were delegates from the zebra stripe painters fraternity, admiring their handy work.
