The Sailing Lesson

This was taken at the beginning of October - the tiny boats with striped sails are taking part in a sailing lesson. The instructor is in the small red boat.

By the way, the red and white boat with the canopy - you see its wake as it moves over the water - is the ferry that crosses the harbour every half an hour. It costs one euro and for anyone who doesn't happen to own a yacht, it's a fun way to pretend! Not bad for one euro.

  1. Ah, to be rich and famous. I guess I'd settle for just being rich so I could own one of these marvelous vessels. It's a picture of stunning wealth.

  3. The boats are beautiful. Is this ferry the water taxi from one point to another for visitors??? Monaco is certainly unique that's for sure. Although the maintenance on these crafts is probably enourmous; nevertheless they are beautiful

  6. Anon, the ferry is for anyone. If you work one side of the harbour you can take the ferry to get to the other. It's for visitors on the big yachts and it's for everyday tourists. It's for anyone.

The building you see on the left is part of Loew's hotel - it's called something else now. I forget but it's a big hotel.

  9. Oh goodness. I never realized just how big the yachts are (I remember the one with the pool!) until this post. The sailboats are downright puny compared to these luxurious ones. Though the wannabe-sailors in them probably don't think so.

All the white there — houses and boats — is just dazzling!
