The Cellars of the Hôtel de Paris - the Displays

More displays from around the dining room. Above we see bottles of Tattinger champagne, designed by a famous artist. I really don't know who. Perhaps Picasso, as he sometimes designed wine labels. Perhaps Cocteau? If anyone knows, please let me know and I'll change the copy.

In the smaller photograph we see rare bottles of Pétrus and a Lafite in the top left-hand corner - apologies it's not in focus. As I said yesterday, one or two bottles are kept as a tribute to a famous wine of a particular year, never to be opened. I can't read these labels but looking at yesterday's post, I'm assuming they are perhaps from 1945.

Below you see part of the walls of the dining room, made up as you see from wooden crates of famous wines. Do click on this to enlarge the photograph - it's fascinating to see so many wonderful names.

Tomorrow is our last day so please come back and meet Nicolas who invited us and also one of Monaco's young and talented sommeliers.

  1. I really don't know the designer of these bottles, but they look like the Easter decoration to me ;- ) And I really don't wanna insult anyone with this comment, they just looked kinda funny to me...

  2. Those crates make a beautiful wall and the grand winery names are very interesting. I've seen those types of artist rendered bottles before although, none by the likes of Picasso.

  3. This has been a fantastic journey, Jilly.

When I grow up, I want to be a caviste.

    Thanks for sharing your visit.

  4. Hi Jilly, despite your comments I'll still talk to you. LOL.
I wouldn't know if they are cheap or expensive ear rings etc. I do know that some very expensive jewelry or clothes do look very cheap & tacky, while some more affordable items can look expensive. This observation generally doesn't work with cars though. Talking of which, I think it's time for another!

  6. Lovely post---the bottles made me think (at least one of them) of Ukrainian Easter eggs. I prefer the classic labels/bottles. The walls are beautiful.
