Theme Day: Glass...in the Cellars of the Hôtel de Paris
Glass - dusty discoloured vintage champagne bottles displayed in the famous cellar of the Hôtel de Paris in Monte Carlo.
The main photo was taken without flash in these dimly lit cellars. I hope you like the graininess, giving the atmosphere of how it was to wander these famous cellars.
For those of you continuing this tour, today is Theme Day in the City Daily Photo community and today's theme is 'glass' - the reason why I'm referring to glass as opposed to what's in the bottle! These beautiful old bottles of champagne, as is obvious, are not for sale and are doubtless undrinkable too - but goodness, aren't they beautiful to look at... (Notice the grill at the side of the display cabinet allowing air to circulate)
And if you are new to this tour of these amazing cellars, do come back tomorrow.
You'll find over a hundred City Daily Photo bloggers from around the world presenting their take on 'glass' today, and you'll find originality and great photos, so do click here to view thumbnails for all participants
You fooled me. In the portal I assumed they were stone. It hadn't occured to me it was dust on glass. Doh!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great find for today's theme . . . the cellar tour is fascinating . . . great sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw this on the portal I thought it was cut-off fingers of an old rubber glove. Looking more closely, I see it's something quite valuable. Makes me think that another subject for this theme day could be Roederer Cristal Champagne.
ReplyDeleteFantastic choice for the Glass theme! Beautiful tour, also.
ReplyDeleteI love my wine but I think I'll pass on this champagne ... Great job of taking a difficult photo.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jilly! This could be a painting. The graininess is perfect. No one in America would allow this, they would want to clean and sanitize it.
ReplyDeleteWow! The labels look like the modern style - everything old is new again!
ReplyDeleteThe graininess is perfect, Jilly. Well done!
ReplyDeleteAha! There is dust in Monaco! Your previous photos showed such a spotless cellar that I was beginning to wonder where were the dust and the spider webs.....
As usual, I'm very much looking forward to tomorrow. I'm truly having a blast with this series.
The top one could be a painting. I love it, Jilly, the light and the dust and the contents:)
ReplyDeleteAh ah! Another perfect one! Champagne for everybody!
ReplyDeleteSomeone already said it, but...it looks like a painting.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Jilly!
ReplyDeleteAngela's comment describes this scene quite well. It should be a painting. You have outdone yourself today.
ReplyDeleteWow, these are just gorgeous and yes they could both be paintings. Fantastic shots.
ReplyDeleteThis is really very lucky for us to be able to see this through your pictures. Not everybody has that chance! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, looks like a dead nature painting!
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat picture. Enjoying the wine cellar tour!
ReplyDeleteExcellent! This is another one where there is glass, but so much more to the photo!
ReplyDeletethis is another great photo. I can feel myself standing in the wine cellar with you taking this photo. your photo puts me right there smelling the mustiness and wanting to pick up a bottle to look and touch it.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful and mysterious, Jilly!
ReplyDeleteI wonder when champagne goes from being perfectly aged to undrinkable?
Wow, what an interesting photo.
ReplyDeleteWhy didn't they clean the bottles? Is the dust left on the bottles for visual effect?
These are beautiful and not easy to do without a flash. I like how the dust on the bottles in the 2nd photo has started to match the wall behind.
ReplyDeleteHappy Theme Day!
This is such a great photo for the theme. I love the texture in the photo.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I bet the stuff inside tastes vile by now! Gorgeous atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteGreat choice for the theme day - wonderful old bottles!
ReplyDeleteThat is one beautiful shot - You really captured a mood here! I really like it!
ReplyDeleteFascinating! Just how old are they? Love the first photo! Wonderful choice for theme day.
ReplyDeleteGreat series Jily. I also suspect that those Pommery Champagne are a bit more expensive than an Evian :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the main photo! In the dim light it appears to be an oil painting rather than a photo! Beautiful!
