Jardin Exotique - Stalactites and Stalagmites

We have not yet reached the main cavern, but even here, as we continue to walk ever downwards, we see the columns and pillars, stalactites and stalagmites. This observatory cave is a natural cavity, created by the flow of rainwater which has dissolved the rock and enlarged the cracks over millennia.

  1. We, my wife and I, went down in Ohio Caverns once and that is where we actually saw "Black" for the first time. Deep in the cave, they turned the lights off and the guide warned us to not try and touch our eyes as we might poke ourselves in the eyes. But I think everyone tried it as it is so dark you could not see your finger coming and it only stopped when you touched the eye hairs. Did they turn the lights off on you?

I always worry about an earthquake happening and sealing us up forever.

  5. Abe, they didn't turn the lights off. Now that would have been something, wouldn't it? I can imagine how disorienting it was for you.
