Grand Prix - the Indispensable
If there is one thing you must have at the Monaco Grand Prix, it's ear protection. Forget cotton wool, wax shapes for your ears, you need noise cancelling headphones and the more you pay the better they will be. You can pay around US$250 for a pair made by BOSE and they'll be good. You will pay 45 euros for these and they include listening to the race on the radio. You can buy even cheaper - see the last photo.
The salesman of the Race Radio headphones told me that it's mandatory to have hearing protection at 110 decibels and that the noise of Formula One cars is 130 decibels. A gun shot is 140. Believe me, he's right, I had no protection on Practice Day on Thursday and suffered for it.

A must. Money should be no object.
Is this you in the portrait? Anyway, I like this picture very much not only because of her lovely shy look.
Buenos Aires Photo
Not me. I wouldn't be taking my own photograph!! Anyway I wish i looked like this...
Forget the headphones. That's a beautifully exotic lady sporting ear protection.
Any cars??
Hi Jilly, found you through Peter in Paris...Thanks for all the Monaco Grandprix info and photos...
I work for the RBS Williams F1 conference centre in the uk, and my husband works for Williams F1 so he was there this week, he goes to all the races, looks after the IT. Yes I know we are not doing very well, but as my husband says "That is Motorsport for you"!!
I could of been there but just didn't have time to organize it, my husband told me a bit late
:-( :-(
Oh Jilly you're taking us where the action is. That's fantastic! I didn't know about the headphones, I'm impressed!
I'm not sure whether she's happy or not about having her photo taken wearing the ear muffs.
When I looked at the portal I thought I saw a Gauguin, but there was never any need of these contraptions in Tahiti. Nice composition.
Bob, you are right, she does have a Gauguin look, doesn't she? Well done for that.
When I saw it 15 years ago There were no Headphones!!!
Marie-Noyale, I think the Formula One cars gets noisier and noisier each year - perhaps it wasn't so bad 15 years ago. Or perhaps we were all younger!
Hi Jilly, thanks for posting the photo of our headphones and for stopping to chat to us at Monaco. Great photo of our gorgeous Gauguin girl... I'll pass her on the link to the story, I'm sure she will love it.
The headphones sold well on the weekend, and we are off shortly to Silverstone.
Gerard
I have other and actually better photographs of your gorgeous Gauguin girl so please write me privately with your email and I'll send them to you. You'll find my email link on the blog - on the right hand side. I chose this photograph cos it nicely showed off your excellent product.
I really like the composition and the eyes. Noticed the recognition by Gerald too. Well done all round.
You have me wishing I were there to experience this race... Having these headphones would be heaven, to listen to the race, and still have the experience of the vibration from the engines, but preserve the hearing and stay sane!
Who would've thought headphones to be a great topic for a post.
My uncle was a race car driver, and I remember how as a child the sound would hurt my ears (and I do have hearing loss from this!)
Thanks Jilly,
David
