Grand Prix - Lewis Hamilton & the Pit Lane
Alright I know these are very small figures but you can just see Lewis Hamilton walking in between the dotted lines. I was an awful long way away. If you watched the race you'll remember that Jenson Button parked his car in the pit lane in error and then had to run all the way along the road in front of the port to the Start/Finish line and Prince Albert. Well I took this from that distance - ie the Start/Finish line - so my little Lumix did pretty well.
In the smaller photo you see the Pit Lane, bottom right with people walking on it. Opposite is one of the stands with an enormous screen at the end showing the race. Behind some of the smaller boats. (This photograph was taken on Thursday during the Practice session).
The Monaco Grand Prix is a spectacle like no other race and no other location. You have shared a wonderful series of photos.
ReplyDeleteI was able to catch part of the race on TV live, although it was the middle of the night. Unfortunately, here in Costa Rica they broadcast it without any announcers. All you could hear was the roar, or whine, of the engines, and it was hard to follow who was ahead and other information about the race.
Thank you for your comments about the dog photos on my site recently. I have some more don-on-the beach photos coming up in a few days, and I think you will really enjoy the human interest element and an adorable dog.
Many of us are so-so jealous. I'd give anything to have been there. My Lumix is also a great camera and performs real well against all odds. The race day weather looks good. You must have had a great time.
ReplyDeleteThese photos bring back memories! I was lucky enough to attend a test run in Monaco a couple of years ago and I managed to watch the actual race from my balcony. (After the test run, I was literally a few feet away from Lewis Hamilton!) I couldn't make it to Monaco this year so I was forced to read about it online. The Grand Prix is an absolutely amazing experience to enjoy at least once in life (although I plan to go back as often as possible!).
ReplyDeleteJilly,
ReplyDeleteHow did you find the numbers on Sunday? I thought it was just as busy as normal - didn't feel the 'credit crunch' had that big an impact on numbers - also the amount of yachts at anchor outside the harbor didn't seem affected either ...
The British contingent were definitely partying in Fontvieille, Lewis last year & Jensen this year ... The Ship & Castle was packed!
All back to normal now though ...
It's nice to see all this again. Thanks for all the series.
ReplyDeleteAnon, I wasn't in Monaco on Sunday. The photos are from the Thursday practice session. According to Nice-Matin numbers were down but not as much as they had predicted. I think the newspaper said 10% to 20% from memory. I gather the balcony bookings were down tho.
ReplyDeleteYes I bet the Ship and Castle was busy. I gather it's the 'local' of Jenson Button's father.
Sorry, When I read the text I thought you meant the smaller pic was from Thursday & the large one obviously Sunday ... Didn't realise they were both Thursday!
ReplyDeleteAnon, yes, sorry for confusion. I only went into Monaco on Thursday. Couldn't face the train etc on Sunday so I watched it on the television. I live below the village of Gorbio.
