There's a new net this year. Last year, there were two - one on each side of the central breakwater. This year we have only one and it stretches right across the beach. According to Nice-Matin this is a better and much safer net that the one we had before. You can see a diver in the smaller photograph inspecting the nets before the day begins. I don't know what the person in the background is doing - holding up a something green. A mystery?
If you have ever been stung by one, you can be grateful for all the precautions they are taking.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm curious what the swimmer is doing in the second photo too. It looks kinda funny actually.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the shark nets that they have at the beaches in Sydney, Australia.
ReplyDeleteI was wondering what this was from the thumbnails. Now all is explained! I didn't know there were problems with jellyfish in the mediterranean. I know we have a lot of them in the Gulf of Mexico.
ReplyDeletePS: I think the swimmer is wearing some of those water weights to give you more of a workout when you swim.
ReplyDeleteIt appears the netting keeps swimmers from venturing very far out in the water. B2's right though, getting stung is no fun. Clever contraption.

Looks like he is doing his morning jog in the pool...oops in the Sea!
ReplyDeleteI have seen people swimming with this kind of weights in each hand, here.
The green thing in the swimmer's hand looks like a paddle to me. Swimmers use them when they want to increase their hand size and swim faster (it's more of a workout too of course). I often see people using those at the pool where I go each week. Sally would know all about them I'm sure!
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know where to buy a jellyfish net? I need to import one to sweden. please email me to hebbe.6@hotmail.com Johannes
