Jacaranda

The Casino Garden boasts many spectacular and rare trees but at the moment, none create shade and catch the eye quite like the beautiful jacarandas.

I've been seeing jacaranda trees in European and American blogs recently, and I think they're gorgeous! I wonder if they'll grow here…

Jully,
The Jacaranda trees in Arizona bloomed more than a month ago, but it is much warmer in Arizona than where you are, so that would make sense.

I love the Jacaranda trees in Buenos Aires, as they are in bloom down there during Thanksgiving vacation time in the USA (late November), which is the time of year that we usually go to visit my son who lives in Buenos Aires. Some of the grand boulevards and parks are lined with explosions of purple Jacaranda flowers.

Oh! I didn't realize they grew there. They're exploding all over Los Angeles right now, dropping lavender leaves all over the streets and lawns. I just love those trees.

The jacaranda is native to South America - Argentina, Bolivia and especially Brazil. Its flowering is magnificent, but its wood is considered as material for furniture and lambris. The churches of the Brazilian colonial period were all covered in rosewood, not counting the "export" to Europe.

As you know, one of my favourite trees. If my beautiful 100 yr old mandarin fell over, I think I'd have to bring in a nice mature jacaranda! (or frangipani - hard choice....)
