A pensive Alberto Contador at the welcome evening in Monaco. Considered by many to be the favourite for this year's Tour de France. In the overall classification, after yesterday's Stage 8 (the second in the Pyrénées) Nocentini is in first place, Contador second and 6 seconds behind. Armstrong is 3rd and 8 seconds behind. Nothing in it. Today another hard day's climb.
Hard to believe wearing the coveted yellow jersey is determined by only a few seconds!
ReplyDeleteSo many great riders! I bet they're looking forward to Monday, a rest day.....
Week #1 down, 2 to go!!
What a super portrait series Jilly. IT's fun seeing these guys up close. Bravo.

I was thinking what Maria said...they ride 110 miles plus in a day and are separated only by a few seconds? Incredible.
ReplyDeleteThere was a rumor the race would end somewhere other than Paris this year...have you heard that?
Jacob the race ends, as always in Paris but what they are saying is that it will be decided this year much later in the race, probably at the dreaded Mont Ventoux which is just before the end. Often, in the past, the race has been decided long before Paris. That's probably what you read.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying your series on the race. Thanks. Great shots of the riders and the activities going on around the race.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying your photos...
ReplyDeleteGo Lance, Go Alberto
I sure would like to see Lance win one more time.
What a treat...to follow the Tour plus see your wonderful close-up portraits of the major players. Of course, I still love the Lance Armstrong portraits the best!!
