Each summer Monaco holds an International Fireworks competition. Every three weeks a different country presents its display. Last night it was the turn of Austria. You have to get to Monaco early if you want a parking place and as you can see in the small photo, people line up around the port awaiting the wonders to come.The jury judges on creativity, technique and synchronisation with the music. In three weeks time it will be France's turn and then we'll have a result.
Note the yacht (centre, foreground of the main photo) with its swimming pool lit up. No one skinny dipping tho, which might have been fun.

Great capture of fireworks! I must admit it's hard to capture this beautiful view.
ReplyDeleteThats quite a competition my favourite is the one that looks like palm trees with the green reflection.
ReplyDeleteMaria - I'm lucky enough to have a friend with an 11th floor balcony overlooking the port. So a group of us had dinner on the terrace and watched the spectacle.

ReplyDeleteAnother good place for watching is when you go to "The Rocher" from the port. You walk up along the road where the old stone gates are on the pavement. (Close to the "picture frame" with view to the port. - Maybe you could show this to everybody, Jilly?) Just around the corner (right hand side) there's the "boule"-club. You can go there and watch from there. Big advantage is that you can put your camera on the wall, so your photos don't blur during long term exposure.

PS: I go 3 weeks to Beausoleil soon. I started planning and thanks to Jilly I want to see St. Agnés as well! (Last year it was Gorbio!) Thanks for the tips! Saorge and Sospel would interest me, too. Do you have any information about train connection / if they go several times a day ("Train de Pignes" and "Train de Merveilles")? Maybe you would like to join me??
Great shots. Fireworks are not easy to capture and you've done a splendid job.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for kind comments. I set the camera to the fireworks setting, put it on a tripod and kept clicking. Each photo took about 2 seconds so it was hit or miss but fortunately I got enough reasonable shots. So I didn't do anything clever!

ReplyDeleteA good collection of firework photos. I sometimes just keep the shutter pressed, just to see if I get a decent picture. I can't remember how many shots a minute the FZ18 can take. But it's a useful device.
ReplyDeleteOh Jilly, I am sitting here with dropped jaw! I bow to you and your night shooting skills. Bravo my friend. I hope Peter will see these when he gets back home. I know he'll enjoy them as much as I have. Ours from la tour will pale in comparison i'm afraid.
