The bay of Villefranche is massive with deep waters - ideal for these big cruise ships, as it was for warships in the past.You've seen this cruise liner before - on Theme Day - and actually it was a better photograph but this one shows better the length of the ship.
I'm wondered what that strange 'thing' is on the top deck - see smaller photograph. Perhaps it's a climbing frame for children?
Meanwhile, we are having to go to the left of this ship to get into our berth in the harbour. We feel pretty small...

I think that would make me nervous if I were in the little boat. That said, I prefer smaller boats to a cruise ship I think.

I tried once to have such a trip and it was a wonderfull experience!!!the Ship looks fantastic!

Jilly, the grey "thing" is a climbing wall. Similar to rock climbing, but not on a real rock. :-)
The first time we visited Villefranche and got off the train from Nice the view we had was of two of these massive cruise liners completely filling the horizon, fortunately not too many of the 'cruisers' found their way into the charming old town.
Jilly, it is a climbing wall - and not just for children. Staff help guests on with harnesses and then carefully guide them up with ropes. I watched once, when the Sovereign was owned by Royal Caribbean.
