One last look at this oh-so-enjoyable show full of so many wonderful Ivor Novello and Noël Coward songs.
If you'd like to hear Noël Coward himself sing 'Don't put your daughter on the stage, Mrs. Worthington' please click on the link.
The smaller photo shows part of a most appreciative audience. Note the beautiful Art Nouveau doors to the Salle Belle Epoque at the Hotel Hermitage.
This must have been a wonderful event. You got some wonderful photos.
ReplyDeleteNow isn't that the perfect look, surrounded by elegant women, so self-assured, such a precious gesture.
ReplyDeleteThey are indeed lovely doors, but I'd say that they are Art Nouveau. The Art Deco movement began in the early 1930's, while Art Nouveau is from the late 1900's.
ReplyDeleteI bet if Mrs Worthington had a daughter now, she would let her do anything to be on the stage, then become a WAG, then sell her story to Hello magazine!
Gail's Man, why on earth I typed Deco rather than Nouveau, I can't imagine. You are right, of course, and I know it - sometimes I just don't concentrate. Thanks for pointing it out. Love your second comment.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much to everyone who has followed this little series and for the comments, of course.
The whole production looks marvelous, I believe that's what they would have said back then. I especially like the cut and fit of the clothes. They must have been scandalous at the time. And great portraits as well, Jilly.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever watched "Gosford Park"? Jeremy Northam as Ivor Novello is heavily featured in it, a first rate ensemble movie.
Paula, I've not seen it but I'll get the DVD. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI love Noel Coward and all things 'Art Nouveau.'
