Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild - the Dogs
One imagines Baroness Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild loved dogs. These two are to be seen in her bedroom with their own miniature chairs and footstools. Perhaps they were modelled after her own dogs?
The dog is the main photo represents a Cavalier King Charles spaniel - looking not very pretty - and the other is perhaps a bichon.
Note the Aubusson carpet. This room overlooks the harbour of Villefranche.

I LOVE dogs and places like this unique Villa, BUT today it was the carpet.... that caught my eye ( sorry, I don`t know if that is how I should say it in English.)
Anyway, I will add this place on the list when I will go south...
Carpet is definitely the right word. It's gorgeous, I agree.
I agree with you that the dog might be the former pet of the baroness. The dog does not have the cutesy pose that one would expect from a statue made for the general market. Plus, if you own a mansion and estate such as this, having a custom made porcelain dog is no problem.
The dog has huge fangs, maybe he's a vampire dog...
this is so beautiful, i loved those last posts of your blog.
Well, if you've more money that you know what to do with, immortalizing your pet makes sense ... I guess. I think I'd prefer something a bit more friendly looking, though, if it were my choice.
