We're at ARTMONACO, a fabulous exhibition currently taking place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco. 70 galleries from 52 different countries are presenting 2000 works of art.
This piece, a wooden sculpture, is called Giant Dwarf by the Turkish artist, Yasham Sasmazer. Yasham was born in 1980 in Istambul where she lives and works. The sculpture was brought to Monaco by Berlin Art Projects who represent her. Unlike the dwarf, Yasham normally sculpts children. Quote: 'Sasmazer’s wooden sculptures are life-sized, realistic depictions of children from somewhere between a dream and a nightmare.' I am sorry that I was way to busy at work and missed commenting earlier on your post yesterday. I agree with the comments about the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach, California.
I also agree that the statue above is provacative, but not something that I would warm up to. The facial expression puts me a little ill at ease.
The artist is very talented, and provacative.
Interesting sculpture! It seems to have the face of a very tired adult. To me, it's not the face that disturbs. Rather, it's the complete rigidity of the arms. I've never seen a squishy kid stand so firm.
Ahhh...he looks unhappy? What it will be if you are a drawf who suppose to be small but you are Giant?

I think it is the eyes that are so disturbing about this statue. It reminds me of the actor Peter Lorre, who usually played a criminal or sociopath. Anyway, Happy Theme Day:)
You are so right, Clueless. Absolutely like his eyes and yet he was blind in one eye I believe. Still gives the same effect tho.

Bit scary
Great oppportunity to enjoy a lot of Art in one place, this piece is a remarkable shock to the consciousness like Fellini done with his characters. Cheers from Mexique.
