A Sign of the Buddha
This sign is part of the hoarding that surrounds the soon to be open Buddha Bar in Monaco. There are fifteen Buddha Bars in the world from Peking to Prague to Paris where the concept was launched 14 years ago.
The Monte Carlo Buddha Bar will cost €5 million and will feature a 160-seat mezzanine, sumptuously decorated in the trademark red and gold. Access will be by the old stairway entrance to the Cabaret, with access to two terraces and the Casino Gardens. Developed by the SBM, the main draw will be the restaurant featuring first-class Asian cuisine produced by a team of chefs especially trained at the Buddha Bar in Budapest. The Buddha Bar opens on the 24th June.
Being the first of the month, it's Theme Day (Funny Signs) on City Daily Photo so to see how this subject is covered by other bloggers in many cities around the world please click here to view thumbnails for all participants.

Hmmmmm ! Straight advertising rather than funny if you ask me. I'm only half happy with those chain stores, be it clothes, food or drinking places. The same all over the world and Buddha's name get used to make big bucks.
How about a Holy Father bar?
Interesting! I don't think we have a Buddha Bar in Eagan yet ...
The English is just a bit puzzling, the design is superb bit I do not think the Buddha would approve. More about increasing desire than becoming free of it.
Buddha?! I thought. Ah, but then I discovered it's a bar, and a chain at that. Wonder what tenet of Buddha it's trying to emulate?
Nathalie, I found it impossible to find a fall about funny sign in Monaco although perhaps I didn't look hard enough. I suppose I thought the words could be faintly amusing as you could add anything you liked at the end - in that first photo. Right tho, not funny - best I could do.
Does it go without saying that we don't have a Buddha Bar in Birmingham?? Very cool sign though.

Agree with Natalie, using Buddha name make peopl think!
Being buddhism, not like much the idea of the bar using this name.

Your sign fits snugly with mine... Well photographed.
I'm kind of surprised we don't have one here.
Not a chain I've ever heard of. Don't think there's one at all in the UK. I'm surprised that they've got away with calling their bars that, as it's promoting drinking and sex. Some things I'm sure Buddists go without for their beliefs.
Cool sign, but I'm not sure the Buddha would approve.
What the Buddha has to do with a sexy woman, I have no idea. But the sign sure is eye-catching!
The incongruity of Buddha and a sexy woman and a bar coupled (dare I say it?) with the puzzling handwritten words make this seem thought provoking and funny to me!
And how strange they don't have one in NY!!!
That's some sign alright! We have a Buddha Bar here in Seattle, but I don't think it's one of "these" Buddha Bars. . . We did just get a Hard Rock Cafe, however, and (unfortunately) it IS one of "those" Hard Rock Cafes. Like a copy machine destination in every port. . .
