Damien Hirst's Temple
You can hardly avoid Damien Hirst's sculptures in Monaco this summer - his Virgin Mother stands proudly in the port of Fontvieille and here, his 'Temple' stands outside the Oceanographic Museum on le rocher. So far 200,000 people have visited the exhibition of his work which includes various animals in formaldehyde.
Don't you love the woman on the bench in the lower photo - doing her crossword puzzle and totally oblivious to this gentleman's bright red equipment!

Such beautiful clear skiies -- she is too busy enjoying living in the day, no doubt.

Impressive human sculptures, street art and anatomy lessons! Probably the lady are making sketches of the work. Greetings from MC and thanks a lot for your comments.
This looks like a walk around Monaco would be a good choice for a field trip for a school biology class.
Thanks Jilly for these wonderful photos of the sculptures as well as the oceanographic museum. When my partner and I come to the south of France, hopefully in the next year or so, this museum is one of the first things we'd like to see. Unfortunately, the art work will probably be gone, or maybe not. Do you have any idea how long Hirst's sculptures will remain at the museum?
I also have to add how great it is that potentially controversial artwork like this is on view in France without any big deal (note that woman on the bench!). I love it! Where I live, near Philadelphia, PA, you would never see such a thing; it is a tad more provincial here. New York, maybe, and California, yes probably, but not here.
medical art is educational and sometimes difficult to look at. I am glad you are enjoying the Sedona photos on my website. I hope all is well.
Is this the dude who does the "plastified" bodies and such? I've always wanted to see one of his shows.
I'm glad the lady could finish her puzzle without being distracted. Hee!
Ann - it closed on the 30th September.
Whoops, sorry I meant to write 'closes' on the 30th September.
Interesting sculpture- artful with an anatomy class.
Probably the most unique sculpture I have seen for a long time!:)
I think the photo with the woman in white clothes, is very good. And I like the way you got the composition so well.
