This month's Theme Day is 'graffiti' and whilst this isn't graffiti (but a child's drawing) it sort of fits the bill. The young daughter of the owner of this beautiful yacht at the Monaco Yacht Show drew this design - Ohana means 'family' in Hawaiian. Later, as you see, he had her drawing painted onto the yacht.Ohana is 43 metres long and is for charter in the Mediterranean in summer and the Caribbean in winter. She's also for sale at $24 million.

It is a great idea to have a child's art on the yatch. Very meaningful!
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand this is a charming story and, admittedly, a beautiful boat. On the other hand, luxury yachts and that sort of thing disturb me. They reflect huge self-absorption and lack of social consciousness. I'm not religious but when I see this I think of Jesus' observation that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Well, maybe Bill Gates and Warren Buffet would slip through. I know, I'm rambling.

It's the best kind of graffiti ... The Livorno really threw me off --- was I on the right blog? The price is a little steep for me by $23,990,000. I saw such luxurious yachts on Croatian coast -- a lot of them from UK.

I think that Bob Crowe's comment is very interesting; apparently hit a nerve with him. Despite the obvious materialism, I certainly do prefer the yacht to mindless graffiti, which this doesn't appear to be but it is again, using someone else's canvas.
ReplyDeleteKate, the father of the child who created the image owns the yacht and doubtless using the drawing is a way (a charming way) of treasuring his child's art.
