There's an awful lot of things you can't do on Larvotto beach - yet I've seen all of these rules broken. I guess that's part of the fun.
I always remember in France, before smoking was totally banned inside a restaurant, there used to be 'smoking' tables and 'non-smoking' tables. If a smoker sat down at a 'non-smoking' table, the patron would simply move the 'no smoking' sign to another table...

My daughters inform me that you are not allowed to go barefoot in Monaco (unless actually on the beach) Police have told them off and their friends for such crimes as sitting on a step, or a wall, having bare feet just above Larvotto beach, and to boys for having their shirts off!

In fact the sand is imported, I believe, so it's only a small layer on top of stones. However there are loads of toys and games for children, particularly at the western end of the beach where you often see groups of toddlers from a nursery having a good time.
Jilly, yes I did know you couldn't walk barefoot around Monaco. Even in Menton now they won't allow bare chests on men and the guys are politely told to put on a t-shirt. On the streets that is, not the beach of course. I see enough women sunbathing with nothing on top on the beaches - the police don't complain about that !
