This well seems to have a concrete cap, which I guess is a safe way to leave a well.
I looked up the word "well" in the online dictionnary.. 19 meanings for it! Is this one for taking out water??

Barbara, yes. The word is 'puit' in French.
Thanks Jilly! But "leo" (online dict.) doesn't find puit either...
So now I looked into my paper dictionaries AND: English: well = Brunnen in German, French: puits = Brunnen.
Life can be so easy...
And further I found out that a well is a fountain without a "fountain" and that French for "fountain" is not "fontaine" but "jet d'eau"!!
So these were my today's English + French lessons! ;-))
