Once I found out that McDonald's had successfully opened a [fancy-looking] restaurant right outside the Louvre museum in Paris, I knew there would be no stopping the Golden Arches in their search of worldwide domination ;-) Not that surprised, actually. ;-) Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)
As an American, it always saddens me to see the American fast food places in charming spots overseas. A shopping complex in Fontveille is a more suitable location than the squares in front of the Casino or the Royal Palace in Monaco.
In Oaxaca, Mexico, they had demonstrations that successfully kept McDonalds out of the Zocalo, although there are several in other parts of the city.
It's not nice to see a Mc.D. in Monaco. The first opened on November 20, 1992. Above a supermarket and near a fastfood Asian restaurant called Zensen is Fontveille Shopping Center more a basic european shopping center than a Monaco one like the Metropole Shopping Center in Monte Carlo.
Dave from Costa Rica said that he is glad that Mc.D. is not near the Casino, but he is wrong. An other is opened near the beginning of Larvotto Beach nearby the Fairmont Hotel.Above the tunnel entrance.
I don't like MC.D. and never eat it. For a 'snack'I go to little cafés where you can eat a real good meal for a good price
Yes, the second one is in the NiBox, so fairly unobtrusive - we visited when the building first opened and it is probably fine for the youngsters who use the sports and nightclub facilities there...we prefer Lo S'fozio up the road for pizza!
Ah, I remember it well. Not that we ate there, but quite liked the Carrefour there. Bought a few groceries to keep us going, rather than paying for expensive hotel food.
I'm glad the principality makes them tone down the signage. We've seen something similar in Kyoto, where the authorities think that the bright red normally used is incompatible with the city's historic architecture. They make the company use a dark rusty brown.

Is the second McDonald's in the NiBox, Robert? I've never seen that but then, like you, I never eat McDonald's!
