The Changing of the Guard

Each day at noon, you can watch the changing of the guard outside the Prince's Palace.

Today they are wearing their winter uniform. In summer, they sparkle in white.

And of course visitors line up to take photographs.

Ten years ago Julie, Glenda and I were three of the people in the crowd photographing the changing of the guard, which is a popular subject, whether in London, Monaco, or Stockholm.

In fact, the royal band at the changing of the guard in Stockholm played several numbers, giving a little concert. One of their selections was the St. Louis Blues, which I thought was rather untraditional for such a pageant, but because I am from St. Louis I love to hear that song anytime.

Great pictures, Jilly!
I was there one summer and there were masses of tourists watching! I had my little camera and a 4GB chip, so I tried to film a bit to also get the music. But the changing of the guards took so long that in the end the accu was empty. ;-))
The guards are always a super motive for good photos! Last october I was lucky to take one of 2 guards having a little chat at the corner near the ramp - one wore the summer uniform and the other one the winter one!
Have a nice Friday!

Oh, I must correct myself!
After looking at my pics again I found out that the one in blue uniform was a police man, not a guard... Sorry!

I love this kind of thing -- fun to see the winter uniforms!
I photographed the ceremonial changing of the Guard of the Rock in San Marino in 2007 ( e.g. at http://travel.webshots.com/photo/2415045510035362839MTmqpX ... notice the long pony tail on one.)
