The Summer Sporting of Monaco

Yesterday in Monaco.  We are looking at the Summer Sporting in the foreground - here you find all the big stars performing in summer. And here you'll find Jimmyz nightclub too.  Beyond that you see a  tiny promontory with the Restaurant La Vigie. And in the distance, Cap Martin.

The Billionaire Club

The Billionaire Club is opposite the Grimaldi Forum, owned by former Formula One boss Flavio Briattore and run by Samy from Sass' Cafe.  The night before last, Madonna, who had just finished a sell-out concert in Nice, brought her entire company along - all 150 of them. 

Le Sporting Monte Carlo - Champagne Nights ...

Our last day at Le Sporting (perhaps I should say evening) - and this is what it's all about - glamorous women, attentive waiters, embossed glasses and of course, buckets of champagne that glisten with condensation.

Salle des Etoiles - under the Stars

The roof of the Salle des Etoiles has been opened.  Look up and we see the stars.  And there, through one of the enormous open windows is the moon.

This is a small part of the dining area of the Salle des Etoiles at Le Sporting Monte Carlo.  This shot was taken shortly after it opened at 20h.30 and within minutes was filling up fast for the Hugh Laurie evening.

Later, the ceiling will be opened and we'll dine under the stars - hence the name ...

Hugh Laurie and the Copper Bottom Band blew us all away in the Salle des Etoiles at Le Sporting in Monte Carlo last night.  He had us up on our feet clapping to the sounds of New Orleans jazz and blues.  This guy is a GREAT piano player - and he sings, he plays guitar and of course he's the witty, adorable, charming Hugh Laurie we know and love.  A great night - thanks Hugh Laurie!

Moods - the Interior

Here's the interior of Moods, Monaco's Music Bar. Bags of low light atmosphere - great music - and a glass of champers - can't be bad!

Moods - The Fabs

Meet The Fabs - well, what else would you call a Beatles tribute band. They were great - from Italy but speaking English and French and singing, of course, in Liverpudlian! They do two shows a night, three on Fridays and Saturdays.

Let's have a night out at Moods, Monaco's music bar. You'll find the entrance at the back of the Café de Paris. Moods is open from 20.00h to 02.00h.

This week Moods is featuring the best local and international Beatles tribute bands. The Beatlovs, the Fabs, Liverpool, and the Love Beatles will all re-live the sounds of the swinging sixties!

Here you see the mirror above Moods, the new nightclub in Monaco. These photographs were taken the day after it opened - still workers around doing last minute touch ups. At night, cascades of water fall each side of the steps.

View from the Eleventh floor...

Taken from the 11th floor of the l'Europa apartment building (guess which lucky person went there for lunch today?) There's something to be said for delivering dog food and being asked to stay for lunch... The curved building you see jutting out to sea is what's known as the Summer Sporting or Jimmyz which is the famous nightclub of Monte Carlo. The Summer Sporting used to be where the Outdoor Summer cinema took place and where you sat in easy chairs under the stars, sipped a glass of vino and watched the latest film in English. The films started at 10 p.m. Now tho, the outdoor cinema has been moved to the Rock, or Monaco Ville where the palace is. In the distance you see the penisula of Cap Martin and the other side of that is Menton (see my other DP blog) and beyond that Italy. End of geography lesson!
