Saint Nicolas Church and the Bikers

Fontvieille's beautiful St. Nicolas' church as you won't often see it - surrounded by bikers and their beautiful Harley-Davidson bikes - see yesterday's post.  Happily the sun came out in time for their barbecue.

Father Julien and the Monaco Harley-Davidson Club

Father Julien, the priest of Saint Nicolas' church in Fontvieille, Monaco is a biker - a member of the Monaco Harley-Davidson Club.  Each year he gives a service in the church for the bikers of the region - Monaco, France and Italy - and after the service there is a massive barbecue held outside the church. In this photo you see Father Julien third from left.

Who knew there was a Harley-Davidson club in Monaco? Who knew Monaco has a biker priest? I love it!

Come back tomorrow - of course you want to see the bikes! And more bikers.

Art Monaco will return in a few days.

The Champions Parade - the 'Golden Foot'

This girl  has removed one shoe and is trying out for size one of the famous footballer's feet, cast in brass, on the Champions Parade in Monaco.

HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, a keen football fan, made the decision to dedicate part of the Principality’s waterfront to this Walk of Fame of the greatest footballers of all time.

The Golden Foot award is an international football award, given to players who stand out for their athletic achievements (both as individuals and team players) and for their personality.

Ten nominees are chosen by a panel of international journalists based on the criteria that they are at least 28 years of age and still playing. Out of this list, the winner is selected by an online poll, where anyone can vote.  The winner of the award, given by HSH Prince Albert II,  leaves a permanent mold of his footprints on "The Champions Promenade", on the seafront of the Principality of Monaco.

Since 2009, there has been a charity auction accompanying the Golden Foot event. The auction is held during the gala evening at the Hôtel de Paris, and raises funds for fighting AIDS.

Petanque at the Palace - Daniel Elena

Another photo of H.S.H. Prince Albert II playing petanque and as you can see one of the other players is no less than Daniel Elena, who is Sebastien Loeb's co-driver in motor rallies. Between them they have won the World Rally Championship 9 times. Daniel Elena is Monegasque.

The Prince's team won!

Petanque at the Palace!

Look what was going on at the Place du Palais in Monaco yesterday.  The whole of the area in front of the Palace has been transformed into specially created gravel petanque pitches.   There are several others apart from this one.

There is space for around 800 spectators in the stands, and there's a giant screen relaying the matches.

This event, the Monaco Petanque Masters,  is the result of a collaboration between the Club Bouliste Monegasque and the Palace and is supported by 'Peace and Sport.'

Entry is free to the square and stands with two semi-finals and the final for professionals taking place today, after which the whole thing will be dismantled.

Peace and Sport organised an informal, pro/am tournament, in which Prince Albert and 32 celebrities were expected to take part. So come  back tomorrow and see how His Serene Highness, Prince Albert II plays a mean game of pentanque!

The Weird Bicycle

Cap d'Ail

Isn't this the weirdest bike!  The photos aren't anything to write home about but I wanted to show you the bike regardless.  I can't imagine balancing on a bike in this position - can you?

This triathlon athlete is running along the promenade above Larvotto Beach, around this pool and fountain and back again.

Skateboarding

The promenade above Larvotto Beach is a great place for the kids to skateboard but there is no ramp from where they can take off - so kids being kids - they make their own, as you see in the second photo.
